Funeral services for Mrs. Maggie M. Bishop, 87, of 2601 Teckla, a pioneer Amarillo resident who died 1:10 p.m. Wednesday in St. Anthony's Hospital, are pending with N.S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Bishop, born Oct. 18, 1886, in Erath County, moved with her parents by covered wagon to Roberts County in the 1890s.
The moved to Washburn when she was 16.
Interviewed a few years ago by the Globe-News, Mrs. Bishop recalled dances in Old Mobeetie and moving to Miami when "there wasn't anything there but saloons and dance halls."
She had lived in Amarillo since her marriage to Jud Hammer Bishop on October 29, 1914. Her husband, who died in 1951, was co-owner of the Bishop Hills development.
Mrs. Bishop held memberships in the First Presbyterian Church, Mother-in-Law Club, Amarillo Club and the Amarillo Country Club.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. W.J. Arnold of 2030 S. Bowie, Mrs. John H. Hess of 2406 Juniper and Mrs. Alvin O. Boney of El Paso; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
