She is lonely no more! Ruth loved the Lord and served in many capacities in the LDS Church. She achieved her Golden Gleaner Award and served as a missionary in the Central States Mission from 1933 to 1935. She served in the Sunday School and as ward Relief Society President in Valencia Park, California and Salt Lake City. She particular enjoyed her 14 years of service as a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple. Ruth and Bert had the opportunity to travel as he performed with the Salt Lake City Post Office Band. They also met monthly for over forty years with Bert's missionary companions and their spouses. Some of the parties are legend. Ruth loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She often tended the family when her daughter, Gayle, traveled with her husband, Arnold.

She is survived by her daughter, Gayle (Arn) Birrell, West Jordan; a sister, Ivy Christiansen, Salt Lake City; five grandchildren, Cheryl (Steve) Sillitoe of Cedar City, Utah, Rebecca (Craig) Schaugaard of Ogden, Utah, John (Jeralyn) Birrell of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Lisa (Ric) Madge of London, England, and Robert, West Jordan; nine great-grandchildren, Chad, Jamie and Christopher Sillitoe, Sandy, Gary, and Amber Schaugaard, and Korbin, Krissinie and Austin Birrell. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, June and Norma; and her brother, Vance. She and her husband were foster parents to many children. She worked as a day-care worker and also as bakery manager for Dans Foods on 33rd South in Salt Lake. Before her marriage, her father moved a home onto her future in-laws property in Hooper, Utah They then remodeled and added to the home. This was Ruth and Bert's first home. They lived most of their lives at 2185 E. Westminster Avenue in Salt Lake City. She later lived at Crosslands Retirement Center in Sandy and the last two years of her life at the South Valley Health Center in West Jordan. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at the SVHC for their care of Ruth during these difficult times.
