Alva Clarice Bird, 91, daughter of Jesse Roark and Vesta Ball Roark, was born Dec. 3, 1910, at Arroll. She died March 5, 2002, at Mountain View Healthcare.
She married Archie Bird Jan. 25, 1928, at the Texas County Courthouse in Houston. They had three children.
Mrs. Bird was a member of the Oakside Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She will be remembered for her love of gardening, making one each sum-mer until last year. Her hobbies in-cluded making quilts. Over the years, she made one for all her chil-dren, grandchildren and great-grand-children and many for family wed-dings and her neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Calvin Roark; and three sisters, Opal Grady, Florence House and Phyllis Roark.
Surviving are her children, Ida Mae Sweet and Alvin Bird of Summersville and William Bird of Mountain View; three sisters, Beulah House of Grimes, Iowa, Ethel Taber and Alice Wilbanks of Mountain View; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Services were March 8 at the Oakside Church at Summersville with the Rev. Chester Webster and the Rev. Homer Stuart officiating. Burial was in the Oakside Cemetery under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home of Summersville.
