Ann (Bird) Bale was born in Devonshire, England, April 1, 1825, and died at her home in Jubilee township, June 30, 1913, aged 88 years, 2 months and 29 days.

When a child and in her native country, England, she was baptised and initiated into the Episcopal faith, to which she proved true to the end of her earthly pilgrimage. She with one sister came to America in the year 1851. In 1852, at Jubilee college she was united in marriage to Wm Bale, Sr. To this union were born six children, William, Robert, Richard, George, Elizabeth, now Mrs. George Challacombe of Radnor township, and Amelia, now Mrs. E. P. Slane of Princeville. The children surviving her are Robert, of Jubilee township, George, who lives on the homestead in Jubilee township, Mrs. Challacombe and Mrs. Slane. She has one living sister, Mrs. Blackmore of Cullom Ill. Her husband and two sons, William and Richard preceded her to the better land.

Mrs. Bale was a kind and faithful wife and mother, always loyal to her home and home circle. It is acknowledged by all who knew her best that in hospitality she had no equal, never allowing a child or even an adult to go away from her home hungry. Her kind heart and loving deeds will never be forgotten. Heaven has claimed a mother of mothers. Her children and neighbors will ever entertain for her the highest degree of gratitude and love. She led a very quiet secluded life, always being especially careful to provide for the comfort of those with whom she came in touch.
