Rites Thursday for Mrs. Bird.
Services for Mrs. William Bird, 83, of 325 S. E. Dunham ave., will be at noon Thursday at Hamilton's funeral home, with burial in Elm Grove cemetery. Mrs. Bird died of a heart ailment Tuesday at her home.
Born in Winterset, she had lived in Des Moines 49 years. She was a member of the Methodist church.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Blanche Huff and Mrs. Beulah Cushman, and a son, Ralph, all of Des Moines; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Emma E Bird was born in a log cabin south of Winterset in Madison County, Iowa on May 4, 1867 and passed away June 13, 1950 at her home in Des Moines, which had been her home 49 years. She was the ninth child of John B. and Amanda Huffman, early pioneers of Iowa. She was active in church and Sunday School, and taught in public school before her marriage to W. B. Bird on December 22, 1886. Besides her husband she leaves 2 daughters, Mrs. Blanche Huff, Mrs. Beulah Cushman, son Ralph Bird all of Des Moines. 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends to mourn her.
