Eva Birchard Alexander, 96, formerly of Cambridge Springs, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 1995, at Wesbury United Methodist Community in Meadville. She was born in Rockdale Township, Crawford County, March 31, 1899, daughter of the late Drew and Emma Ryan Birchard.
Mrs. Alexander was the Richmond Township tax collector for 12 years; attended Edinboro Normal School and, as a young woman, taught school in Wesleyville and in Crawford County for several years; worked at Talon Inc. in Meadville during World War II; was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cambridge Springs and the church's Alpha Sunday School class; was a past noble grand of Our Lady of the Springs Rebekah Lodge 295 and the Rebekah Fancy Work Club; and also belonged to the Rockdale Garden Club.
Mrs. Alexander lived in the Cambridge Springs area all her life, moving to Wesbury seven years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold D. Alexander, on Feb. 2, 1972; they were married on May 31, 1922. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Ray and Arnold Birchard.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John (Jean) Hunter of Orlando, Fla.; a son, Richard D. Alexander of Cambridge Springs; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home, 335 Venango Ave., Cambridge Springs, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and may attend a funeral service there Wednesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Ronald Hankey, pastor of Cambridge Springs United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Millers Station Cemetery.
