BINGHAM JR., ALLEN "BING" March 18, 1923 to Aug. 3, 2012 Survived by daughter Ellen (Steven), son Mike (Michelle), granddaughter Tamara Marie (Jimmy) and great-grand-children Sierra, Cheyenne and Elijah. Our Mom Cecilia "Judy" passed away in 1998. They had been happily married for 49+years. Our Dad began his Navy career at age 19 and rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. During World War II, he and 17 others were put on the Island of Bougainvillea in the South Pacific. After great tribulation, only three men survived. Over the years our Father had many accomplishments, received many awards and earned accolades from all who knew him. Here's a man that was too humble to boast about them, but here are a few. After the war while he was stationed in Japan, he was the first American to earn a black belt in Karate. He was a master craftsman and we all remember the 32 ft. sail boat he built in the backyard. It took him five years and we launched it on Easter Sunday 1967. He went on to become a Probation Officer for the County of S.D. starting up the Drug and Alcohol program at camp Westfork. Later on he bought an airplane. Went to school to become an A&P mechanic and flight instructor. He had a sense of humor like no other. He was the best person we ever knew from the greatest generation that ever was. He remarried when he met Joanne and they had 13 happy years together until he passed away. Honor Guards will be present for the ceremony at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery on Wednesday, September 5th, 2012. Meet at the flagpole by 2:30 p.m. John 14:1-4.
