GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Viola M. Bingaman Beard Pilgrim, 96, of 265 N. Carlisle St., died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005, at her home.

Born June 7, 1909, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Iva Nisewander Bingaman.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Beard, in 1973, and by her second husband, the Rev. Arthur Pilgrim, in 1989.

She had worked at the former Spitz Co. and Baer Packing Co. in Greencastle.

She was a member of Otterbein United Brethren Church of Greencastle and the adult Sunday school class.

She attended Greencastle Senior Citizen Center and was a member of the former Greencastle AARP Chapter. She won bowling trophies and was a participant in the Senior Olympics.

She is survived by two daughters, Janet Cosey of York, Pa., and Patricia Rozell of Greencastle; two sons, Robert Beard of Carlisle, Pa., and Edward Beard of Greencastle; one brother, Frank Bingaman of Waynesboro, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Ida M. Beard; three sisters, Myrtle Rice, Ida Helman and Mary Yeates; one half sister, Verna Bryeven; and four brothers, Norman Bingaman, Scott Bingaman, Lewis Bingaman and Denton Bingaman.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Otterbein United Brethren Church in Greencastle. The Rev. David Rawley and the Rev. Adam Leeper will officiate. Burial will be in Macedonia United Brethren Church Cemetery near Greencastle.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home in Greencastle and Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
