She was born Oct. 26, 1922, in Troxelville, a daughter of the late William F. and Bertha V. (Berge) Bingaman. On June 28, 1941, she married John W. Smith who preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1990, after 49 years of marriage.
Mabel had been employed at the former Chimney Restaurant, Cole’s Lunch Counter, and the Children’s Center. She retired after 22 years of service from Susquehanna University book store, where she was the assistant manager.
Mabel was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Selinsgrove, where she helped serve church banquets and assisted in the mailing of the church newsletter. She was also a member of Lafayette Chapter 222, Order of the Eastern Star, Selinsgrove.
She is survived by one daughter, Gail Heintzelman, of Northumberland; daughter-in-law, Cindy Smith; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five nieces and one nephew; and her dear friends, Ronald and Georgina Good.
She was preceded in death by one son, James W. Smith Sr. on Dec. 26, 2005; and one sister, Florence Fuhrman on Dec. 25, 2007.
Friends and family may call from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Monday with an Eastern Star service by Lafayette Chapter 222, followed by the funeral at 11, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Selinsgrove, with the Rev. Dietmar Plajer officiating.
Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Beavertown.
