Parents: Edward and Grace Doran as second child of four.

In the spring of 1923 the family started a three month driving trip and arrived in Southern California where they settled and lived until 1933, when they moved to Cottage Grove, Oregon on a homestead property. It was there that Dorathy met and married Irl R. Binder in 1936 at the home of her sister, Veronica Riggs.

Dorathy and Irl chose Elkton, Oregon for their homesite and while living at Anderson's cabins, built their home on the John Binder millsite property. They used lumber from the old mill to construct their home and moved into the home in 1937.

They became parents in 1938 when daughter, Claudia Jean was born, and in 1942, a son, Larry Michael came to join them and in 1949, a second son, John Anthony.

Dorathy, using her mother and grandmother's teachings, displayed her role as wife and mother well. She helped construct their home, grow healthy gardens, made our clothes with her busy hands. We remember and thank you, Mom, for all the warm coats, knitted sweaters, hats, mittens and toys and apple pies you made with love for us.

Dorathy's talents have been never-ending through her life. In the late 50s, she pursued her love of art by becoming a self-taught well-known artist of oils, pastels and watercolor.

Every day she marveled at the bounty of beautiful sunsets, mountains, rivers, roses, and all that nature offers and recorded it with her paintbrushes. Everywhere we look, we are reminded of her creations. In her later years, she crafted greeting cards that reflect yet another extension of her artistic talent.

We will miss you, Mom, Granny, Great-Grama, and Great- Great-Grama and will never forget you.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Irl, one sister, two brothers and one grandson, Rick.

She is survived by her daughter, Claudia; sons, Larry and John Binder; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Dorathy often said, "Life on this earth is very short, pursue happiness every day."

In her memory, the family will gather for a celebration of her life at a later date.

Thanks to hospice for your caring support during this time.
