Ida was born November 1, 1918 at home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, just a few days before the WWI Armistice. She is the youngest child of William H. and Nancy May Hope Bills. When Ida was three years old, her family and several aunts and uncles moved to Emmett in covered wagons. Her father, William, passed away shortly thereafter and her mother later married Bert Gibbons.

Ida attended grade school in Emmett, Vale, and Rexburg; she graduated from Emmett High School. In 1936 her parents moved to Nampa so she could attend the Nampa Business College where she completed a nine month secretarial course in six months.

Following graduation from Business College, Ida worked for three years at the Idaho Free Press before marrying Harold W. Benjamin on March 23, 1940. They were blessed with three children, Leighton, Arlen, and Glenda. In 1960 Ida returned to work at the newspaper office and continued working for 23 more years, retiring from the Idaho Press-Tribune in 1983. Her husband, Harold, passed away in 1968.

Ida was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a rich heritage; her great-grandfather was the first bishop in Nampa. Ida served in a number of capacities in the church, including secretary of the stake Sunday School, Sunday School teacher, Relief Society teacher, stake missionary, temple worker at the Boise Temple, and others.

Ida is survived by two sons and their wives, Leighton and Nancy Benjamin, of Nampa, Arlen and Shirley Benjamin, of Caldwell, 20 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, two sisters, a grandson, and her daughter, Glenda Drinkall.

Always known for her pleasant personality and quick wit, Ida was once told by her boss at the newspaper office that she was the kind of person who would be happy wherever she was.

The family would like to thank Park Place Assisted Living and Treasure Valley Hospice for the tender, loving care they gave to Ida in her last weeks and months, and for countless friends and associates who blessed her life through the years.
