DYERSVILLE, Iowa -- Glen W. Billmeyer, 79, of Newton, formerly of Dyersville, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, with his family by his side.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Newton, where friends may call from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, April 14. Additional services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Dyersville, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 137. Friends also may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 15 at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville.
He was born on June 11, 1928, in Dyersville, son of Jake and Leona (Tegeler) Billmeyer. He graduated from Xavier High School in Dyersville and attended Loras College.
Glen served his country in the Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He retired from Peoples Natural Gas Company after 28 years of service.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, the Newton Elks Lodge and Westwood Golf Club.
Glen loved spending time with his family, especially attending all of his grandchildren's events. He loved to golf and looked forward to his annual trips to Bella Vista, Ark.
Surviving are his daughter, Gwen Conrey, of West Des Moines; his son, Sam (Louise) Billmeyer, of Ankeny; three grandchildren, Jeff (Beth) Conrey, Kristi (Mike) Hicks and Jake Billmeyer; four great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Lauren Conrey, and Anna and Jackson Hicks; and his good friend, Mel Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Joan and Jane.
