Earnest Earl Billings, oldest son of Maynard and Zora Dochterman Billings, was born March 6, 1905, near Etna, Missouri, and passed away in the St. Joseph's Hospital at Keokuk, Iowa, Sunday afternoon, January 16, 1955, being 49 years, 10 months and 10 days old. He had been in failing health for a number of years, but had been in the hospital only since Saturday evening.
Earnest spent his entire life on various farms in Scotland County and had lived the past 23 years on his farm one mile south of Granger. He was an industrious man, always looking for employment and eager to better his position in life. He was prompt and painstaking in his work and economical with his means.
Those who survive are his mother, Mrs. Zora Billings; a brother Ross; a sister-in-law, Stella; and two young nephews, to whom he was very devoted, Richard Wayne and Tommy Ray Billings, all of Granger, Missouri and a large number of relatives and friends.
He will also be greatly missed by his devoted housekeeper, Mrs. Mary Slack, and her son Paul, who have helped him maintain his home for several years.
He was preceded in death by his father on May 27, 1953, and a two year old sister Roseanna.
