Son of George and Jane Carr Billings. In 1853 the family came to Missouri and settled on Bear Creek.

George Washington Billings married Martha A. Easley, a daughter of Jefferson Easley. To this union was born four children, William H., Thomas J., Sarah Lucy and James. Martha died July 15, 1871. Mr. Billings married Mary E. Hall, daughter of Presley Hall, on February 28, 1873 and they had five children; Joseph Jefferson, George Sharp, and three who died in infancy.

Mr. Billings was one of the founders of the New Harmony Presbyterian Church and served as an elder for many years.

---George Billings died yesterday at his home in the east part of town at the age of seventy-one years. Mrs. Billings had been suffering for some time with cancer of the stomach.
---Deceased leaves a wife, six children and a host of friends to mourn their loss.
---The funeral will be preached at the New Harmony Church east of town, Friday, February 18, at 4:30 p.m. by Rev. George Sharp of Kirksville. The burial will be in the New Harmony cemetery.
