Johnny Billingsley, 88, of Fort Worth and formerly of Abilene, was called home on Friday, January 12, 2007, from the Southwest Nursing Home in Fort Worth, surrounded by his beloved family.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Abilene Funeral Home Chapel, with Edd Eason of Richardson, Texas and Wally Bullington of Abilene officiating.

Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, with Military Honors and graveside services performed by David Seay of Fort Worth, Texas, and directed by Abilene Funeral Home, 3349 North 12th Street. The family will receive friends at a visitation at Abilene Funeral Home before the services from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Murry John Billingsley was born on September 2, 1918, in Jones County to Rupert Lafayette (Fate) and Minnie Leola (Woodruff) Billingsley. Johnny was married to Cora Bliss Miller, the mother of his sons, until she died in 1963. He later married Katherine D. (Kay) Jacobs, the mother of his step-daughters, until her death in 1989. Betty Eason, a friend from church, married Johnny on April 11, 1992, to become his spouse, companion, friend, and devoted caregiver until his death.

A veteran of the U. S. Army, he served in the Pacific during World War II. Upon his return in 1945, Johnny started working in the service station industry for Humble, later Enco/Exxon Oil Company, and served people in the Abilene area for over 30 years. After his retirement, for the next 30 years, he worked in home improvements and was a Shaklee Distributor.

Johnny lived in Abilene over 70 years, was a member of Elmwood West Lions Club, and an avid supporter of Christian Homes of Abilene. Through his caring spirit, he worked for many widows and widowers of Highland Church of Christ where he was a member for over 60 years. He loved people and accomplished good work habits. Wally Bullington, Rip Ripley, Dub Brunner, L. B. Lowry, Bob Bearden, and Carroll Dewaine Miller, all longtime avid fishing and hunting buddies, might hear Johnny say "Gosh a Friday" or "Golly Wiskers" as his slang.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Bliss; his second wife, Kay; two brothers, two sisters, and daughter-in-law, Karen.

Survivors include: his wife, Betty; four sons: Johnny, Jr. and wife, Janie, of Brownsburg, Indiana; Gary and wife, Lois, of Cedar Hill, Texas; Bruce and wife, Cheryl, of Odessa, Texas; and Edd Eason and wife, Tresia, of Richardson, Texas; three daughters: Sherrie Lapine and Vicki Hughs, both of Austin, Texas; and Beth and husband, David Seay, of Fort Worth, Texas; fourteen grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons: Linn Hughs, Eric Billingsley, Matt Billingsley, Mark Billingsley, Adam Seay, and Josh Eason. Honorary pallbearers include a host of friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Pioneer Bible Translators, 1521 Rocky Creek Circle, Cedar Hill, Texas, 75104 or Christian Homes and Family Services, 1202 Estates Drive, Abilene, Texas 79602.
