Also known as "Yummy", Norbert was an English teacher at Reading High School from 1933 until his retirement in June, 1971.
He had served as junior varsity football coach and assistant varsity coach at Reading High School for many years until 1966, and had also been an assistant varsity baseball coach for many years until 1971.
The husband of Clara C. (Winterhalter) Billinger, he was athletic ticket manager from 1968 to 1983.
One of the founders of the Berks County Football Officials Association, he received a certificate from the association for 25 years as a sports official.
"Yummy" was elected to the Berks County Athletic Hall of Fame in May 1980.
He had been a star lineman for three years at Reading High School before his graduation in 1929.
For the next four years he played end, tackle and guard on The Catholic University of America football teams at Washington, D.C. In 1931 and 1932, the university's teams won 14 out of 17 games.
A 1933 graduate of Catholic University, he played in the Sugar Bowl in his senior year.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.
Note: Norbert was a staff Sergeant in the 397th Fighter Squadron; 368th Fighter Group.
