Recently worked in catering at Knoebels
Jean L. Billig, 85, of Middle Road, Catawissa, died late Saturday evening, July 23, 2011, at her home. She had been in failing health since May.
She was born May 17, 1926, in Catawissa, and was a daughter of the late Roy and Grace Johnson Hoffman.
Jean had worked numerous jobs in her lifetime and the most recent was at Knoebels Grove Amusement Park in catering, and she worked right up until this year.
She had been an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Catawissa (Numidia), where she was active in the Altar Guild. She also was a member of Cataweese Chapter OES, and was active at one time, and a former member of the Roaring Creek Valley Grange.
Jean liked playing cards, spending time at the Senior Citizen Center in Numidia, and enjoyed working at Knoebels. She loved people and being around them and also eating out.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert W. Billig, who died in 1991, ending a marital span of 46 years. She also is preceded in death by a son, Dane Billig, in 2006; two sisters: Dawn Baker and Ruth Hoffman.
She is survived by a son, David E. Billig and his wife Sandra, of Elysburg; a daughter, Cheryl Scott, of Columbia; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and a sister, Jane Achy and her husband Jeff, of Catawissa.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 30, 2011, at 11 a.m. from St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ringtown Mountain Road, Catawissa (Numidia), with the Rev. Gordon Smith, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation for friends will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa.
