BELTON — Barbara Gerline Akey, 70, of Belton died Wednesday, May 19, in a Belton nursing home.

Graveside services will be 3 p.m. today in McDowell Cemetery in Belton with the Rev. Rick Lasley officiating.

Mrs. Akey was born on Jan. 20, 1940, to Jasper Esque and Laura Elizabeth Britton Bilbrey in Temple. In October 1962, she married J.C. "Charlie" Akey. She was a member of Trinity Full Gospel Church in Belton. She was a member of the Belton Senior Center and the Cleburne Red Hat Society. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 19, 2006.

Survivors include a son, David G. Akey Sr. of Watuga; a daughter, Barbara O'Braden of Belton; two brothers, Jasper Esque "Sonny" Bilbrey Jr. of Marshall and Johnnie Mack Bilbrey of Belton; three sisters, Margie Mitchell of Temple and Ruth Camden and Dorothy Trute, both of Belton; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Dossman Funeral Home of Belton is in charge of arrangements.
