She was born in Twin Twp., Preble County, Ohio; the daughter of Milton H. and Phoebe Ann (Reichard) Bierly.

She was united in marriage to Charles Benjamin Shields on January 24, 1900, in Eaton, Preble County, Ohio, with whom she shares a headstone. To this union, no children were born.

Mrs. Josephine B. Shields

Services were held Thursday at the Kramer Memorial Chapel in Lewisburg for Mrs. Josephine B. Shields, 77. She died Monday at the Mann Rest Home in Eaton.

She was the widow of Charles B. Shields who died in 1946. Mr. Shields was a newspaper publisher having printed parers at Shirley, Ind., Frankfort, Crooksville, Bremen and Lancaster. He also operated a commercial print shop in Columbus.

Surviving Mrs. Shields are one sister, Mrs. Hattie House, Lewisburg; two brothers, Herbert Bierly, Crooksville and Everett of Lewisburg.

Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery.

Josephine Shields Rites Here Today

Services for Mrs. Josephine Shields, 77, native of this community, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Kramer Memorial chapel here with the Rev. Harold Mesmer, pastor of the Eaton EUB church officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Grove cemetery near New Lexington, beside the grave of her husband, Charles Shields.

Mrs. Shields died Monday at the Mann rest home in Eaton where she had resided the past three years. Daughter of the late Milton and Phoebe Reichard Bierly, she was born and reared on a farm along the Sheep road, south of here. For years she resided in Columbus where her husband owned and operated a commercial printing plant. Mr. Shields died nine years ago.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Hattie House, now sharing the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Hoff, near Lewisburg, and two brothers, Herbert Bierly of Crooksville and E.J. Bierly, Lewisburg business man. The latter arrived here Tuesday night from Bradenton, Fla. where he and his wife are wintering. He began the trip by plane, but because of had flying conditions made the last part of the trip by train and bus.

Friends may call at the funeral chapel.
