Daniel Biddle Passes Away
Daniel W. Biddle, 82, died Monday, January 18, 1954, at his home in Remington.
Mr. Biddle was born October 24, 1870 in Benton County, Gilboa,Township. His father, Jermome H. Biddle, was born at Elizaville, Kentucky; his mother, Lydia Merrell Biddle at Wayntown, Indiana.
He was married to Jane Bartee who died in 1926; Two sons survive, Chester, living on the Biddle farm and Charles, a member of the local Remington Farmers Rural Insurance Company, also three grandchildren.
Mr. Biddle was married in 1929 to Gertrude Besse, a former teacher in the Remington schools.
His boyhood and early adult years were spent on the family farm until he established residence in Remington, where he took an active and influential part in the church and general life of the community.
Mr. Biddle had attended Sunday School and Church services, as was his custom. He was apparently in good health, becoming ill shortly after returning to his home.
Mr. Biddle was a director of the Indiana Farmers' Mutual Insurance Company, a charter member and president of the State Union Mutual Insurance Company, a charter member and director of the Indiana Mutual Hall Insurance Company and a charter member and chairman of the Meridian Mutual Insurance Company.
In addition, he was assistant secretary of the Remington Farmer Mutual Insurance Company and vice-president of the State Bank of Remington.
A native of Remington, Mr. Biddle farmed many years and began his business career as a cashier in the Remington State Bank. He became secretary in 1918 of the Remington Insurance company which his father, Jerome H. Biddle, had founded.
Mr. Biddle formerly was vice-president and director of the Old Indiana Mutual Cyelone Insurance Company which merged with the Indian Farmer's Mutual Insurance Company in 1930.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Presbyterian church at 2 o'clock with Rev. Donald Hartsock conducting the services.
Burial was made in the Remington cemetery.
