The News-Herald, Thursday, Jan 26 1978:
Donald C. Bickel, 47, of Cooperstown, died at 9:30 a.m. today at his home. He had been in ill health for the past two years. He was born to Carl H. and Mildred Beers Bickel in Dempseytown March 15, 1931.

He spent his entire life in the Dempseytown-Cooperstown area, attending the public schools in Oakland Township and Oil City, graduating from Oil City High School in 1949. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served from 1953 to 1955 in the United States Army. He worked at Joy Manufacturing Co. for 22 years as a machinist and was off on disability for the past two years. He was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church and the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department, and was a past secretary.

He was first married to Nancy Boyd in 1951, and she died in 1957. On Nov. 24,1960, he married Mazie McLaughlin, who survives, with a daughter, Mrs. Samuel L. (Lois) White, Guys Mills; three sons, Donald Carl Bickel Jr., 15, Daniel C. Bickel, 12, and Dennis C. Bickel, 6, at home all at home; two brothers, Willis W. Bickel, Franklin; and Thomas G. Bickel, Dempseytown.

Services will be conducted at Huff Chapel with Rev. John Walker, pastor of Oakland United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be made in the Lamey Cemetery.
