|Birth: ||Nov. 29, 1832, Germany|
|Death: ||Mar. 25, 1899|
Grandmother Julia traveled with her parents, her ten year old deaf sister Barbara, and her three year old sister Elizabeth aboard the Alliance to New York City en route to Ohio in July 1838 when she was only five years old. What an exciting but scary adventure this must have been for all of them, crossing the great big sea to an unknown destination.
Julia’s father Moritz worked as a farmer in Ohio, and they remained there at least until after Julia met and married her husband Fred in 1851. By 1860, Moritz had moved to Indiana, and by the time of his death in 1870, he had married at least three other women and had twelve more children.
Fred was found as an apprentice tailor living in the home of his master in Ohio in 1850. Julia and Fred traveled to Iowa, where they are found in census records in 1856; then by 1870, they were living in Lewis Co., Missouri where they remained for the rest of their lives, raising seven children and losing two little girls.
BICK--At her home in this place, Saturday, March 25th, Mrs. Margaret [sic], wife of Frederick Bick, in the 67th year of her age. Her funeral took place at the German M. E. church on Monday and the large attendance of sympathizing friends attested the loving esteem in which the deceased was held.
The wife of Dr. Bick died at 5:25 p.m. March 25, 1899, aged 67 years after a long illness. She leaves a son in Clark county--Mrs. Reiter and Mrs. Hartwig, two daughters in other states and her aged husband to mourn her departure. Her funeral took place Monday morning at the German M. E. church, of which she had long been a member. Her children were in attendance, except Mrs. Louise Martin who has been sick all winter.
