Andrew 'Jack' Bick

Andrew "Jack" BICK, 91, of 827 W. 13th St., Rochester, formerly of Wynnfield Crossing, Rochester, died at 11:51 a.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester. He was in failing health for three months.
He was born in Rochester to Clyde and Mable Meyer Bick and lived in the Rochester area his whole life except when he wintered in Cortez, Fla., from 1960 to 2000. On Dec. 22, 1934, in Rochester, he married Martiena Geiger. She preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 1976.
The founder of Jack Bick & Sons Concrete, Rochester, he owned and operated the business for 45 years. During his tenure, he gave away more than 500 tons of sandbox sand to area families for their children's sandboxes and to more than three different generations of families.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a seabee. He was a member of the LeRoy Shelton American Legion Post No. 36 and Manitou Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1343. He also belonged to the Manitou Moose Lodge No. 1107, Elks Lodge No. 2120 and Eagles Lodge No. 852, all of Rochester.
He will be remembered by many for his strong work ethic and dedication to the families of Rochester and surrounding communities. He loved to work and he worked hard for many years even after retiring.
Survivors include a son, Jim D. Bick and wife Katrina, Rochester; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Sue Bick, Rochester; two sisters, Lola Eisenman, Wisconsin, and Bernice Gedeon, Rochester; a brother, Clyde Bick and wife Helen, Plymouth; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death with his wife were a son, Jack K. Bick, on Jan. 18, 1988; a sister, Alvada Rookstool, on March 14, 2001; a brother, Luroy W. Bick, on March 25, 2005; and his special companion, Darlynne Boone, on Oct. 14, 2005.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Indiana 14 West, Rochester, with Pastor Mark Kline officiating. Burial will be at the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rochester. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
