Dorothy Mildred Bice, 96, of Arizona, formerly of Winfield died Monday, May 7, 2012, at Glencroft Care Center in Glendale, Ariz.
Born March 1, 1916, in Illinois City, Ill., she was the daughter of John and Lula Morehead Danner III. In 1936, she married Ralph TeStrake in Muscatine. They divorced in 1947. In 1956, she married Elbert Bice in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He died in 2000.
Mrs. Bice and her second husband farmed. They lived in Winfield and retired to Mesa, Ariz. She worked for FHA and submitted an awarding winning efficiency improvement that was implemented nationwide.
She later did the bookkeeping and tax reporting for Elbert's and her farm. She did part time proofreading for an attorney's office during retirement.
She moved to Muscatine with her mother and two sisters after the death of her father and younger brother in the Spanish flu epidemic in 1919. She finished high school in Muscatine.
She was a member of United Methodist Church in Winfield and a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star.
She enjoyed golfing in Iowa and Arizona and playing bridge with friends. She was known for winning prizes for spelling and trivia, and kept the awards to share with her grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, John TeStrake of Grafton, Wis., and Mark Bice of Glendale; one daughter, Mary Jo Beauchamp of Dubuque; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Wilma Schoemaker of Muscatine.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
