June Bice Bateman, 83, of Tucker, GA passed away Thursday, February 8, 2007. Miss Bateman was born June 29, 1923 in Kissimmee, FL; daughter of the late Lee and Ellen Bice Bateman. She graduated in 1941 from Leesburg High School and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leesburg. In 1955, the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board brought her to Atlanta. She became a member of the First Baptist Church of Decatur. In 1966, began her career as secretary to Dr. Fred Williamson, Director-Southern Region for CTB/McGraw-Hill retiring 25 years later and dearly loved by her fellow employees. A charter member of the Northlake Golden Kiwanis Club, served 15 years as secretary receiving many Kiwanis awards including the Hixon Award for outstanding dedication to service. She became a member of the Briarcliff United Methodist Church and a past president of the Something Else Sunday School Class. She traveled throughout the U.S., visited several foreign countries and a volunteer security person in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. She cherished her family and friends with compassion and love. Miss Bateman was preceded in death by her sister, Jessie Lee B. Arnold and brother, James Nelson Bateman. Survivors include brother-in- law, Marvin Arnold of Orangeburg, SC; nieces, Kathy Kagiwada of Longwood, FL, Lynn Polan (Michael) of Apopka, FL, Linda Cowan of Cocoa, FL; nephews, Gary Arnold (Nancy) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Steve Bateman (Nancy) of Deltona, FL, Phil Bateman (Ginny) of Roswell, GA, Jimmy Collins (Lillian) of Clinchfield, GA; great nieces & nephews, Courtney & Emily Bateman, Amanda & Nicholas Kagiwada, Nichole, Michael Veto & Brandon Polan, Ryan Sneed, John Collins, Debra Kratz, Sissy Wittemann, Greg Petersen as well as a multitude of great friends. Memorial Services were held Saturday Feb. 17, 2007 at Briarcliff United Methodist Church by Rev. Sondra Jones. Interment memorial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Leesburg, FL, Sunday Feb. 25, 2007 at 2:00 pm performed by Pastor Gary Blanchard, First Baptist Church of Leesburg. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Briarcliff United Methodist Church or the Something Else Class, both located at 4105 Briarcliff Rd, Atlanta, GA 30345.
