Alex Paton Bevins, 21, of Defiance, died Monday, January 24, 2011, in an industrial accident at Advantage Powder Coating.
He was born in Defiance, Ohio, on May 31, 1989, the son of Robert Bevins and Patricia (VanVlerah) Meyer. Alex was a 2007 graduate of Paulding High School and a 2009 graduate of International Business College with a degree in computer science. He loved hanging out with his friends and family, playing World of Warcraft, fast cars and playing with his little brother, Caden. He was employed as a machine operator at Advantage Powder Coating in Defiance.
Surviving are his mother, Patricia Meyer, and stepfather, Jeff Meyer, of Cecil; father, Robert Bevins of Defiance; brothers, Cody Bevins of Defiance and Dilon Bevins of Cecil; half sisters, Paige Meyer of Cecil and Maize Bevins of Defiance; half brothers, Levi Bevins of Defiance and Caden Meyer of Cecil; grandparents, Lee and Sharon VanVlerah of Defiance and Della Bevins of Defiance; stepgrandmother, Freda Meyer; and great-grandmother, Patricia Hayden Hosler, Paulding.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather, William Bevins; great-grandparents, Leo and Dorothy VanVlerah; great-grandmother, Faye Salyer-Dooley; great-grandfather, Harold "Barney" Hayden; stepgrandfather, Gerald Meyer; and uncle, Jack Bevins.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 2-8 p.m. Friday in the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at Lawson-Roessner with Deacon Don Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

A Cecil man was killed in an industrial accident Monday afternoon at Advantage Powder Coating Inc. The incident occurred at approximately 2:41 p.m. at the facility, located at 2060 E. Second St., Defiance. According to Defiance Police Chief Timothy Tobias, Alex Bevins, 21, Cecil, was pronounced dead at the scene by an investigator with the Defiance County Coroner's Office. Tobias said Bevins sustained a head injury when he was struck by a piece of machinery he was operating. No other injuries were reported. Assisting at the scene were the Defiance Police Department and the Defiance Fire Department. Tobias said officials with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were at the business on Monday. A spokesperson for Advantage Powder Coating Inc. declined to comment. The incident remains under investigation.
