Death came suddenly to Samuel N. Beverage, well known citizen of this community, Friday night, Jan. 27 at 11 p.m. at his home on Franklin Road the result of a heart attack, after a period of several years of semi-invalidism. A son of the late John B. & Mrs. Susan Moyers Beverage, he was born on Strait Creek, at the old Beverage homestead, March 29, 1865. He was, therefore, seventy-three years, nine months, and twenty-eight days old at the time of his passing. He is survived by his widow, who before marriage was Miss Fannie Cunningham; one son, Brooks Beverage, with whom he made his home; a half, sister, Mrs. Rosa Bodkin, of Lexington, ILL.; Olen S. Beverage and Andrew Morgan Beverage, of the Strait Creek community. One son, Claude, preceded him in death several years ago. Mr. Beverage was a man of sterling character, honest, trustworthy & held in high esteem by a large circle if friends. During his many active rears, he had served a number of business houses in Monterey as clerk, and was known far and wide for his fair dealing with people he came in contact with. Funeral services were held from he Monterey Methodist church, on Sunday afternoon at one o’clock, conducted by his pastor, the Rev. J.H. Light, assisted by the Rev. A.E. Johnson of the Presbyterian church. A large crowd was in attendance, considering the inclement weather. Interment followed in the family lot in the Monterey cemetery.
