Elwyn "Bud" Bevan, 83, passed away at home surrounded by his family on December 8, 2006. He was born on June 2, 1923 in Chicago, IL. His mother died at an early age and he was placed in an orphanage until he was 15.
After the outbreak of WWII, Bud joined the United States Marine Corps.
Trained as a paratrooper, he reached the rank of Staff Sergeant and saw action on Bouganville and the Battle of Iwo Jima.
After the war he returned to Illinois and in 1946 married his wife of 60 years, Marjorie.
Settling in Maywood, IL, they raised two children, a daughter, Susan and a son, Stephan.
In 1963 the family moved to Palm Springs. Bud worked in the Coachella Valley as a real estate broker for many years.
In addition to his wife, Marjorie, his son and daughter, two sisters, Ruth Syler and Gwen Day also survive him. His oldest sister, Louise O'Neill preceded him in death. Bud is also survived by three grandchildren, Rick Gomez (Knauf), Chris Gomez and Meredith Bevan and five great-grandchildren, Justin, Caroline, Christian, Logan, Blake and Kayla Rose.
Services will be held on Monday, December 18, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Wiefels Palm Springs Chapel. Burial will be at Riverside National Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wiefels Palm Springs Mortuary.
