Woodrow T. Berwager
Woodrow T. Berwager, 81, entered into God's eternal care at 12:12 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at the Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Bertha J. (Runk) Berwager to whom he was married 57 years.
Born April 9, 1923, in Grand Valley, Md., he was the son of the late Tempeth and Beulah (Barnhart) Berwager.
Woodrow was a member of St. Paul's (Dubs) Lutheran Church, Hanover. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 14 of Hanover; the Hanover Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2506 of Hanover; a life member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 227 of Hanover; and a life member of the McSherrystown Home Association.
He serviced in the U.S. Army from 1943 through 1946. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal; American Theater Service Ribbon; European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon; and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
Woodrow retired from Eisenhart Wallpaper of Hanover after 45 years of service in the shipping department.
In addition to his wife, Bertha, Woodrow is survived by two daughters, Christina G. Berwager of Hanover and Linda L. Chronister of New Oxford; two sons, Woodrow S. Berwager of Glenville and Randy G. Berwager of Hanover; seven grandsons Scott A. Chronister of Hanover, Sheldon C. Chronister of East Berlin, and Brant R. Berwager, Brooks L. Berwager, Bryan L. Berwager and Brock M. Berwager, all of Hanover, and Brett A. Berwager of Glenville; one great-grandson, Nathan A. Chronister of Hanover, one brother, Ivan Berwager of Hanover; six sisters, Pauline Mummert, Nadine Neiderer and Mary Gilbert, all of Hanover, and Lettie Dupler and Gladys Shadle, both of Littlestown, and Grace Hempfing of Glenville.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harley Berwager and Melvin Berwager; and three sisters, Treva Zumbrum, Erma Hilker and Hazel Sullivan.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover, with the Rev. Anthony P. Szilagyi officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Full military honors will be provided by the Allied Veterans Honor Guard of Hanover.
Serving as casketbearers will be Woodrow's grandsons, Scott A. Chronister, Sheldon C. Chronister, Brant R. Berwager, Brooks L. Berwager, Bryan L. Berwager, Brock M. Berwager and Brett A. Berwager.
