Donald W. Bertram, 64, of Beaver, died unexpectedly Friday, March 5, 1999, in the Allegheny General Hospital Emergency Room, Pittsburgh. Born Dec. 16, 1934, in Bedford, Pa., a son of the late John and Mildred King Bertram, he was a resident of Beaver for the past 40 years. From 1959 to 1982, he worked as a civil engineer and project executive for Three Rivers Stadium, Pittsburgh, with Michael Baker Jr. Inc., having served as senior vice president of the northern division, from which he left in 1982 to become Beaver County's first County Engineer. He retired in July 1998 from Chester Engineers, Pittsburgh, formerly Green International of Sewickley, serving as vice president of construction services, where he oversaw capital improvement programs for the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority. He was a member of Beaver United Methodist Church and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a 1952 graduate of Everett High School, Everett, Pa., and a 1959 graduate of Penn State University, State College. A former president and member of Beaver County Chapter of Professional Engineers, he was honored in 1972 as Engineer of the Year. He was also a member of the Jolly Boys II Investment Club of Beaver. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Carole Murdock Bertram; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara and Michael Petrovic, Barrington, Ill.; Cathy and William Brown, Crown Point, Ind., and Julie Bertram, Scott Township; a brother, Dr. Robert F. Bertram, and three grandchildren, Beth and Thomas Petrovic and Corey Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. John Bertram. Friends will be received today from noon to 3 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. in the NOLL FUNERAL HOME, 333 Third St., Beaver. A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 10 a.m. in the Beaver United Methodist Church with his pastor, the Rev. Dennis M. Henley, officiating. Interment will follow in Beaver Cemetery.
