The Southeast Missourian Cape Girardeau MO April 30, 1986 Funeral service for Miss Clara J. Bertling, 224 North Park, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Hanover Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert J. Daniel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Miss Bertling, 96 years old, died at 11:55 p.m. Monday, April 28, 1986, at Southeast Missouri Hospital, where she had been a patient for two weeks. She had been in ill health for several years. She was born Aug. 18, 1889, daughter of the late Fred C. and Louise Schlue Bertling. Miss Bertling lived with her niece, Miss Frieda Meyer. She was employed by Rigdon's Laundry and the Dorsa Dress Factory in Jackson before her retirement. Miss Bertling was the oldest member of the Hanover Lutheran Church, where at one time she was a Sunday school teacher. She was of a pioneer family and was a descendant of Daniel Bertling, a founder of Hanover Lutheran Church. Surviving are a sister, Helen Kelpe, Cape Girardeau; a brother, Walter Bertling, Cape Girardeau; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
