COLUMBIA - Mildred T. Berry Berliner, 87, died Sunday, July 17, 2011, following a brief illness. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Lazar "Louis" and Bella Brotman Berry.
A graduate of Columbia High School, she met her soulmate and the love of her life, Alexander Berliner, during a trip to Brooklyn, N.Y. They were married shortly thereafter, and enjoyed 66 years of wedded bliss, until Mr. Berliner's passing earlier this year.
Mrs. Berliner worked as an accountant for the State of S.C. for both the Archives and History Department and the Department of Education. Upon her husband's retirement, she opted to retire early so that they could enjoy their time together. Longtime members of Beth Shalom Synagogue, they enjoyed golfing and were avid supporters of theatre, the symphony and the arts.
Surviving are her sons, Joseph Berliner and Joshua Staub of Charlotte; sisters, AnnLee Baron of Columbia, and Libby J. Weiner of Egg Harbor, N.J., nieces, nephews and innumerable close friends.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2011, in Beth Shalom â€' Whaley Street Cemetery conducted by Rabbi Jonathan Case. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family
