It was October 2000 or 2001. As you can see, these headstones are very similar size, shape and color. They were already lying face up. It was about mid-day, but lighting was poor. If I looked very closely I could faintly read the names James Barnes on one stone and Mildred Barnes on the other. Even close-up photographs of the inscriptions proved to be unsatisfactory. Here is the sad part. I went back 2-3 days later when it happened to be late in the afternoon. By chance, the sun happened to be at the correct angle to bring out the names and the dates, but I was out of film and had to head for home which was 750 miles away! I had a notebook with me wrote down the dates, but have never located them. I've not thrown any notebooks away so am convinced that I should find it. I remember clearly that it read that James had a birth date of 1798. I am not so clear about the death date shown him, maybe 1867 or 1876. At this time I don't recall any dates that I was able to see on Mildred Barnes' marker except that she was born in the early 1800's.
