Burial will be in St. Mary and Joseph Cemetery in Chebanse. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Parish; Mercy Home for Boys and Girls of Chicago, c/o Father Scott Donahue; the Illinois Veterans Home at Manteno; or to Otto Township Fire Department. She died Friday (Oct. 9, 2009) at her home.
Mrs. Devine retired from Shapiro Developmental Center in 1984, then worked at Bunge Foods for several years. She was a homemaker all her life in the Chebanse area. She was born Dec. 8, 1924, in Chebanse, the daughter of Bernard J. and Irene Bechtel Berns. Her husband, Edward A. Devine, whom she married Sept. 18, 1945, at St. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Chebanse, died Aug. 8, 2002. She was very active in the CCW at St. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church as secretary for years and Woman of the Year one year. She was also secretary of the Ford- Iroquois Deanery Board of the Joliet Diocese and helped with funeral dinners with food and serving the meals. She was a volunteer at the Illinois Veterans Home at Manteno. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, doing embroidery work and crocheting.
Surviving are four sons and three daughters-in-law, Gerald Devine, Gregory and Marla Devine, all of Chebanse, Edward Devine of Bradley, Maurice and Valerie Devine of El Paso, Texas, Mary Ann Devine of El Paso, Texas; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Irene and Dan Jensen, Angela Devine, all of Kankakee, Beverly and Gary Lanton, Rose and Gary Mitchell, all of Limestone Township, Agnes and Michael Rivard of Bradley, Barbara Devine and friend, Joe Nitz of Bourbonnais; 13 grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren; and special friend, Lacey Amanda Marek.
Deceased are her parents and two sons, Joseph and Robert Devine.
