Betty Jane Berninger, 90, of 1900 Ravine Road, Williamsport, died Wednesday, July 15, at the Williamsport Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Leroy Berninger, in 1994 and by six siblings and her parents, Florence (1948) and Elmer (1971) Rook.
She was co-founder of Roy's Bakery, Williamsport, in 1948 and was long known as the "Cookie Lady" until her full retirement in 2003.
Born Sept. 21, 1918, she was a 1936 graduate of Williamsport High School. She was a long-time member of the Williamsport Lycoming County Council of Republican Women and served as its president, secretary and treasurer at various times. She also was passionate about bingo and played numerous times a week until a year ago.
MoMo, as she was fondly called, took great pride in her family and always had a smile for everyone.
Surviving are sons, Jack L. Berninger (Colleen) of Richmond, Va., and Gary R. Berninger (Marian) of Williamsport; three grandchildren, Devon Berninger Stronach (George) of Wilson, N.C., Gary R. Berninger Jr. of Williamsport and Mitchell J. Berninger of Williamsport; loving niece, Kathryn MacLane of McLean, Va.; and three great-grandchildren, G. Thomas Stronach V and Colin Berninger Stronach of Wilson, N.C., and Emma Campbell of Williamsport.
