Mr. Bernhardt married Edith Loraine Knipe on 24 July 1938 in Archer City, Texas.
He was a retired farmer and rancher. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran church and had served as an elder, trustee and Sunday School officer.
Survivors: wife; daughter - Betty Reinert of Weatherford; two sons - August "Allen" Bernhardt, III and Herbert, both of Olney; four sisters - Olivia Scipert of Vernon; Pauline Braune, Helene Kunkel and Ruth Furr, all of Olney; three brothers - Oscar of Fort Worth, Alvin of Poolville, Johnnie of Wichita Falls; nine grandchildren.
