Grace Elizabeth Harris Harrison, 100, was born July 27, 1909, to Mary Onah and Charlie Berner in rural Newton County, Mo., near Stark City. She passed away on Jan. 5, 2010 at Riverview Manor in Ozark, Mo. Grace had lived in Newtonia and Neosho most of her life and had moved to Ozark 10 years ago to be near her son, John W. Harris and family. Grace graduated from SMS (now MSU) in Springfield, Mo., and had been a teacher at Diamond Hall, Midway, Wheaton, and for many years in Neosho, Mo. She was an accomplished seamstress, beautiful quilter and did gorgeous handwork of all kinds. She was a longtime member of the Newtonia Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 48 years, Jim J. Harris; her second husband, Jay Harrison; her son, Elvard D. Harris; her son, John W. Harris; and five brothers and sisters, Fred Berner, Ilah White, Bessie Wilkerson, Lawrence Berner and Harold Berner. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Beverly Harris, Ozark; her grandson, Timothy Harris and wife, Mary and great-grandson, Ethan Harris, all of Ozark. She is also survived by a brother, John Berner, Neosho; many nieces and nephews and a very special and loving friend, Joanne Kenney. Services will be Monday, Jan. 11, at 1 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Chaplain J.R. Duncan will officiate. Burial will be in the Newtonia IOOF Cemetery. Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, on Monday beginning at 9 a.m. and the family will receive friends Monday from noon until service time at the funeral home. The casket will be closed at all times. Contributions in memory of Grace may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of Clark Funeral Home, P.O. Box 66, Neosho, MO 64850. The family would like to express their gratitude to Ozark Riverview Manor and Seasons Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Grace these last few years, including a special caregiver, Gypsy Collins. Online condolences may be posted at Arrangements under direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
