Writer, critic and Woman Suffrage Movement leader. Thekla's first works were published in the newspapers Reedy's Mirror and the Old St. Louis Republic. She was active in local and international art circles and was a member of the jury on arts and crafts for the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the St. Louis Artist Guild for several years.
