She lived in Springer as a homemaker and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church until 1983; then she moved to Fallbrook to live with her sister after her husband passed away. She always loved to come visit her family and friends every year.
Eloisa Mercedes Bernal was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Ben Bernal, her brother Narciso Martinez, two sons, Thomas Bernal and David Bernal; and two great grandchildren Matthew and Desarae.
She is survived by one sister, Domes Cervantes of Fallbrook, Calif.; two brothers; Joe Fermin Martinez and wife Lela of Fallbrook and Miguel Martinez and wife Jessie of Stanton, Calif.; one daughter, Diane Montoya and husband Charlie of Springer; grandchildren Tony Bustos Jr., Priscilla Bustos, Veronica Bernal, Vanessa Najera and Brandi Bernal. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren: Amanda, Devon, Deanna and Jalen; special nephew Manuel Portillos and special friend Danny Vigil and wife Marian. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.
Visitation for Eloisa Mercedes Bernal will be Friday, Sept. 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home in Raton.
Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be Saturday, Sept. 15, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Springer. Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10 a.m. with Father John Canon as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Springer Cemetery.
