Evelyn L. Bern, 91, of Traer, formerly of Gladbrook, died Saturday, May 21, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer.
She was born Sept. 18, 1919, in rural Tama County, daughter of Frank and Mary Patava Chizek. She married Marvin Bern Sept. 1, 1943, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He died in 1970.
She attended rural schools in Tama County. The couple farmed near Gladbrook, Lincoln and Traer. She was a member of Gladbrook United Methodist Church, UMW and Crystal Friendship Club.
Survived by: a daughter, Bonnie (Robert) Murty of rural Traer; three grandchildren, Sandi, Steve and Scott; five great-grandchildren, Ross, Conner, Layne, Rhianna and Skyler; a brother, George (Phyllis) Chizek of Gladbrook; two brothers-in-law, Elmer Bern and Leslie Bern, both of Lincoln; and a sister-in-law, Viola Vasey of Grundy Center.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Gladbrook, with burial at a later date in Crystal Cemetery, rural Toledo. Public visitation will be held for two hours before services Tuesday at the church. Overton Funeral Home, Traer, is in charge of arrangements.
