She was 80, and a resident of Baton Rouge since October 2000 and a lifelong resident of Alexandria.
She was born in Alexandria, the daughter of the late John Hamlin and Ada Prestridge Prothro.
She graduated from Bolton High School, studied art at Louisiana College in Pineville and graduated from the Parson's School of Interior Design. She retired from Clark Dunbar & Co. as the manager of the Four Corners Gift and Gourmet Shop.
She will be remembered for her love of the culinary arts. All of her family will miss her Natchitoches meat pies, buttermilk biscuits and pound cake.
She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild and the Women of the Church.
She was recently preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Alfred E. "Buster" Berlin Jr.
She is survived by her children, Alfred E. "Trey" Berlin III and wife Mary Evelyn Dekeyzer Berlin of Baton Rouge and their children, Alfred E. Berlin IV and wife Melanie Mensik Berlin and great-granddaughter, Evelyn Perry Berlin, Michael Lee Berlin and Brian Douglas Berlin and wife Allyson McKinney Berlin, all of Asheville, N.C., Belva Berlin Dewey and husband David Hilton Dewey and their son, Jake Hilton Dewey, all of Houston, and John Caldwell Berlin of Baton Rouge. Pallbearers will be Alfred E. Berlin IV, Michael Lee Berlin, Brian Douglas Berlin, Jake Hilton Dewey, David Hilton Dewey and Mark Rosenthal.
