Married Bessie Holcomb of Lincoln in 1909. Graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1908 and returned to Omaha to work in the family business as a coal dealer. Elected to the Omaha School Board in 1926 and was its President in 1933, and also served on the Douglas County Board of Commissioners. Bergquist Stadium was named in his honor. Lived at 2311 A Street.
