Ben Bergman, lifetime resident of Washington in the south part of this county, died suddenly at his home last Saturday. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Mr. Bergman, who was 72 years of age had reportedly gone to help a neighbor with some work but did not feel well and had returned to his home. He was resting in a chair when death came.

Benard Jacob Bergman was born at Washington August 14, 1892 and he spent his entire life as a resident of the little village. His life work was farming.

As a young man he served in the United States Navy for two years during World War I and he took an active interest in things of a community nature throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife Charlotte and by five sons and ten grandchildren. The sons are Byron and Ralph Bergman of Omaha; Donald of Bennington and Bernie and Bruse of Huron, South Dakota.

A sister Mrs. Amanda Paasch lives at Elkhorn and a brother Fred, lives in Washington.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard with the Rev. Harold Laursen conducting the ceremony. Burial was made in the German Cemetery under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home of Blair. Military services were carried out by V.F.W. Post 1251 of Blair.

Nephews of the deceased man served as pallbearers. They were Fred Puls, Robert Bergman, Stanley Kerstetter, Henry Schumaker, Alton Stender and Chester Auch.
