Death of Mrs. Chas Bates
One of the largest funerals which have been held in this community during the past years took place last Sunday afternoon when the earthly remains were interred in the Center City Cemetery. The funeral was held at 2:30 pm Rev Oscar Sandahl officiating.
Mrs. Lydia Mathilda Bates was born in Center City, April 12, 1886 and was the daughter of Mr. S Berglund of the same village. Here she spent her girlhood days and many are those who will remember this bright cheerful and companiable girl. In June,1912, she met Mr. Chas C Bates of Excelsior, Minn., their membership soon ripened into love and the following year on August 12, 1913, they were united in marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Bates have made their happy home in Minneapolis most of the time since they were married and the departed was at all times a most cheerful and tender mother to her children.
Deceased leaves two small daughters; Lucille Eldora aged 2 years and Baby Dorothy Elizabeth 10 weeks old. Mrs. Bates died at Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis from complications caused by childbirth. Besides her two children she is deeply mourned by the husband, Mr. Charles Bates, her father, S Berglund, four brothers, Peter, Fred, Herman and George and four sisters, Mrs. C M Dahlstrom of Minneapolis, Mrs. C Brandon of Seattle, Mrs. Freda Sellman of Shafer and Miss Florence Berglund of Center City.
