Mrs. Catherine Berger, another old resident of this community, died Thursday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Willis L. Dietrich, at 507 North Center street, where she had been bedfast for more that three years.
She was the daughter of George and Catherine (Siefer) Carbiener and was born in St. Joseph county, Sept. 16, 1856, being almost eighty-one years old at the time of her death. Her early life was spent in the community north of Bremen until her marriage on April 14, 1878, with Peter Berger. They moved to Kansas and lived there until 1908, when they returned to Bremen, which was her home until the time of her death. Her husband died Oct. 9, 1912.
Mrs. Berger was the mother of six children, two whom died in infancy. Those surviving are Oliver Berger of Kansas City, Mo., Fred Berger, Mrs. Noble N. Nusbaum and Mrs. Willis L. Dietrich, of Bremen. She leaves also one brother, William Carbiener of Bremen, and two grandchildren, Alan and Martha Nusbaum.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Dietrich residence, in church of Rev. A. B. McKain of Grace United Brethren church, of which Mrs. Berger was a member. Burial was in the Bremen cemetery.
