Husband of Virginia (Peterson), with whom he would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in August, and father of Robert, Susan and William T. He was the son of the late Thorleif and Hilda (Tervo) Berg. He was raised in Concord, and graduated from Concord High School in 1950, where he was a member of the football teams that contributed to the longest winning streak in the school's history. In his senior year, he played in the annual All-Star football game in Lowell.
After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, including duty aboard the USS New Jersey.
He worked most of his life in carpentry, and built the family home in Boxboro. He also operated his own canteen business for 10 years, and later was employed at Carleton-Willard Village in Bedford for 10 years.
He was a former member of the Maynard Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed the outdoors, bowling, playing cards, and especially loved taking his wife and family out to diner. He was a sports fan, and liked following the Red Sox and the New England Patriots. (The Sun - 7/15/2007)
