EDENTON - Vera Beale Benton Hollowell, 94, of the 200 block of Virginia Road, died Thursday, June 25, 2009, in the Skilled Nursing Facility of Chowan Hospital. Mrs. Hollowell was born in Gates County and was the youngest of 13 children born to the late William Thomas and Lula Powell Benton. A homemaker, she was a member of Ballard's Bridge Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Raymond Hollowell Sr. Surviving are a daughter, Rita H. Chappell and husband Mayward of Hobbsville; two sons, Tommy R. Hollowell Jr. and wife Shirley and William B. Hollowell and wife Doris, all of Tyner; seven grandchildren, Dennis Chappell and wife Joy, Raymond Chappell and wife Sallie, Brad Hollowell, Michael Hollowell, Sharon Pendleton and husband Shawn, Deborah Taylor and husband Jim, and Christian Dendy and husband Terry; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. in Ballard's Bridge Baptist Church by the Rev. Ron Parr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, handling arrangements.
