Retired Area Teacher Dies Unexpectedly

Mrs. Annie (Burket) Benton of 601 Lotz Ave., who retired as a teacher in the area schools in 1957 after 44 years, died unexpectedly in her home at 1:20 p.m. yesterday. A graduate of Millersville Normal School in 1924, she had taught in the Frankstown Twp., Williamsburg and Hollidaysburg Borough schools, retiring as a principal from the latter district. She had done postgraduate work at Grove City, Penn State and Temple University. She was born in Bedford County Sept. 26, 1894, a daughter of Jacob E. and Essie (Claycomb) Burket, and Nov. 23, 1955, in the Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg, married L. Earl Benton, who died Feb. 11, 1966. Surviving are two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Edwards of Lakemont, Mrs. Ruth Baldwin of Frankstown, and WIlliam A. of Geeseytown, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Benton was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg.
