Grace Rosella Benson Crookston Allred Date: June 14, 2000 LOGAN, Utah Grace Rosella Benson Crookston Allred, 90, has now been freed from two of this life's most tormenting diseases, arthritis and Alzheimer's. God called her home Monday, June 12, 2000. She was born September 15, 1909, in Newton, Utah, the sixth of eight children of Minnie Jensen and Nephi Benson. She was raised in Newton, Utah, where she attended grade school. She graduated from North Cache High School in 1928. She married Grenville A. Crookston in Newton, Utah on August 7,1930, and they were the parents of one child. They were later divorced. She married Parley Elwin Allred on December 6, 1947. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. During her early life she made her living as a hair stylist. She worked 30 years for The Herald Journal newspaper until her retirement. She loved flowers and always had many beautiful flowers in and around her home. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she held many positions in the Relief Society and Primary organizations. She sang in the ward choir. She and Elwin loved to dance and spent many years as the Stake Dance Directors in the Mt. Logan Stake. For 11 years she and Elwin directed a successful Saturday night dance program at the USU Union Building sponsored by the Logan LDS stakes. They loved to square dance and organized a square dance club and danced and performed for many years. She was active in community and civic affairs and a devoted member of the Republican party. She was a master bridge player and spent many hours with her card playing friends. She and Elwin loved to travel around the country visiting his old army buddies. They have been faithful attendees to the annual 104th Timberwolf Infantry Division reunions. Her biggest love was to be with her granddaughters and family. Her granddaughters will always remember the wonderful trips and vacations they made with their grandparents. She is survived by her husband Elwin of Logan; one son Ronald (Sharon) Crookston of Logan; four granddaughters Teresa (Mike) Larsen of Salt Lake City, Coreen (Kris) Larsen of Logan, Allison (Derrick) Longson of Highland and Jennifer (Paul) Schofield of Salt Lake City. She had 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, June 17, at the Allen-Hall Mortuary with Bishop Cordell Henrie of the Logan 11th Ward conducting. A viewing will be held at the Allen-Hall Mortuary Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral services. Burial will be in the Logan
