Weir City Tribune, July 5, 1901:
Died at his home in this city, Monday, July 1, Harry Benson, aged 18 years, 9 months and 26 days. The funeral services were held from the family residence in east Weir Wednesday, July 3, at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. McGill and the remains were laid to rest in the Weir Cemetery. Harry was sick but a few days and his death is thought to be due to overheating himself. He came home from Pittsburg Saturday morning feeling ill and soon after became unconscious, from which he never recovered. He was well liked by all who knew him, who regret very much his sudden departure from our midst.
Weir City Journal, July 5, 1901:
Died at the home of his parents on East Main Street, Monday, July 1st, 1901, Harry Benson, aged 18 years, 9 months, and 26 days. The funeral services were held at the home Wednesday, July 3rd, at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. McGill and the remains were buried in the Weir City Cemetery. The incidents connected with young Benson's death are rather peculiar and are a mystery to his relatives. He came home Saturday from Pittsburg and as he stepped upon the porch he fell in a semi-unconscious condition, supposed to have been overcome by the heat, and while unconscious all the time until his death, spoke of having been robbed of his money, but nothing is known. He was at Fort Smith during the firemen's tournament and some of the boys say he secured a position with Berry Janes at Spadra, Ark., near Ft. Smith, and when the boys left for home he left for that place, but nothing more is known of him until he returned home.
